When I was in graduate school it was au courant to cut off people by saying, "That's labeling." Afterward, "That's stereotyping". Years later the in thing was to say, "That's a sweeping generalization". Many more years later it was "That is unpolitically correct". And then it was "That is offensive to me".

How long did it take everyone to realize that the proper reply to these was, "So what? I have the right to speak my mind"?
