Watched Ordeal by Innocence, as gripping as the original novel. A man is executed for a crime he did not commit, and a series of exciting events leads Miss Marple and the police to the truth. The action is swift and there is no dilly-dallying on the part of the author, and, consequently, on the part of the director.
The difference between this successful production as compared with the static progress of Nemesis is, of course, point of attack, which Agatha Christie was never consistent with, because it is indeed difficult to handle that with a Chekovian cast of characters.
This production is so good that it triumphs without glitz. Short but substantial roles by Jane Seymour and Burn Gorman. Everyone else was equally excellent, though. The roles were well-written and conducive to fine acting. You can always tell. There were many, sensitive close-ups.
