Whenever a family member is coming home late--whether your spouse, your child, your grandchild, or other members of the household--ensure the following:

1. The porch light or the light at the front door must be on, looking bright, cozy, and welcoming.

2. Upon entry to the house at least one other room should be brightly lighted.

3. The interior of the house should smell good.

4. There should always be food on the table, in the oven, or in the refrigerator.

5. There should always be water, juice, or soda in the refrigerator.

6. The bathroom and toilet should be very clean.

7. If possible, at least one other person in the house should be awake and engaged in a restful activity, listening to music, or watching TV.

If you are able to do all of the above, every family member will appreciate and value coming home and being home.
