Watched The Secret of Chimneys. It is such a far cry from the original novel that the only way to enjoy it is to forget all about the original and go with the flow of the DVD, which proceeds like a game of Clue-Do and has nothing of the sound structure and clever twists of the novel.

Inspector Battle is cat-like, as he is described by the author, but for some reason I'd always envisioned him as a quiet and un-flamboyant, Peter Lupus type!

As fantastic as the original novel was, it is a hundred times more credible than this production with completely contrived situations and an equally contrived assortment of characters.
